Glenelg Nordic is a volunteer-run cross-country ski club with about 25 km of regularly groomed and trackset trails near Markdale, Ontario. Our trails — in Grey County Forest #24 and (for members only) on nearby private land — take you over moderate hills through hardwood forests and a variety of terrain.
Membership in our club, at $80 per family per year, is an affordable investment, and non-members can purchase day passes at reasonable rates. For details, see our membership page.
We skied the new trail today, excellent! We were tempted by the smell of french fries but soldiered on. Stopped in at the Barrhead Barr, which was open. Excellent view and good climb to the top of the new hill, enjoyed the ride down to the Turner’s trails. Trails are in great shape, big thanks to the groomers. May have been the best ski of the season, so far! Skiing was fast on waxless skis that were glide waxed with Swix Blue Glide -4 to -15. Looking forward to our next ski.
Are the trails well marked from the parking lot? Also with the degree of difficulty? Several of us are coming from Sauble on Thursday.. Are there maps available in the parking lot?
Thanks
Hello Anne Marie,
There is good signage from the parking lot to the trail head, a few metres away. Trail maps are posted within the property and there are a few other indicators (“To parking”) to help skiers choose their routes. Trails are not marked as to level of difficulty but even the more thrilling ones are wide enough with gentle curves to allow skiers to control their approach. The groomed surface beside the track allows an additional measure of control if needed.
